Microsoft recently introduced powerful new collaboration-focused agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot, designed to work with teams, not just individuals. These agents bring intelligent, context-aware support directly into the tools your teams already use, like Teams, SharePoint, and Viva Engage.
Unlike traditional AI assistants focused on personal productivity, these new agents are built for group collaboration, helping your teams coordinate, communicate, and execute more efficiently across every phase of a project.
The new collaborative agents act as AI teammates, always on and embedded in your team’s digital workspace. Each agent is tailored to the specific context it’s operating in, whether it’s a Teams channel, SharePoint site, or community in Viva Engage.
Take a typical scenario: your team is launching a new product, Project Pluto. Within the dedicated Teams channel for the launch, a “Project Pluto Agent” is available to summarise conversations, distill decisions, create drafts, schedule checkpoints, and coordinate with other agents to keep the launch moving forward.
In meetings, the Facilitator Agent can prepare agendas, take notes, track decisions, and turn those into actionable follow-ups, seamlessly integrated with the Project Manager Agent, which helps automate project tracking and task creation.
Across your company’s Viva Engage communities, agents help amplify initiatives by drafting announcements, answering FAQs, and ensuring discussions remain on-topic and accurate in real-time.
Behind it all, the Knowledge Agent keeps content organised in SharePoint, applying smart tags, surfacing the most relevant files, and making sure that when Copilot is asked “Which spec is final?” it gives the correct, up-to-date answer with full citations.
These agents don’t work in isolation. Thanks to Microsoft’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), they collaborate across platforms, sharing context and invoking one another’s capabilities in a unified workflow. That means fewer handoffs, less confusion, and faster progress.
Whether it’s planning, execution, or communication, AI is no longer on the sidelines. It’s now a full-fledged participant in your team’s success.
All of these experiences are grounded in Microsoft’s enterprise-grade security, identity, compliance, and admin controls, so your organisation can adopt them with confidence.
The collaborative agents are now available in public preview for all Microsoft 365 Copilot users, and the Facilitator Agent is generally available today.
Professional Services:
Consulting, legal, and accounting teams juggle complex projects and client demands. Collaborative agents help by summarizing meetings, tracking deliverables, and automating updates, freeing professionals to focus on critical thinking and client relationships.
Healthcare:
Care teams rely on seamless coordination across departments and specialists. The agents streamline communication by capturing meeting decisions, managing tasks, and organizing patient documentation, while ensuring strict data security and compliance, so clinicians can focus more on patient care.
Microsoft 365 Copilot is evolving fast. If your organisation wants to move beyond personal productivity and truly enable AI-powered teamwork, now is the time to act.
